Made-to-measure kitchen worktops: choosing the type, size and processing

img

A kitchen worktop is not chosen by colour alone. It has to be cut to the length of each wall, joined at the corner, cut out for the hob and sink, and edge-banded where the ends are visible. This guide explains which worktops Mobilier.md stocks, what size the boards are, and what you need to order a worktop that arrives ready to install.

In short

  • Mobilier.md, a furniture manufacturer and materials supplier in Chișinău, Moldova, stocks postforming worktops, HPL Compact worktops, PerfectSense Premium matte worktops, Feelwood worktops and decorative wall panels.
  • Boards in the catalogue are 4,100 mm long. Width and thickness depend on the type.
  • You can order the worktop cut to size, with hob and sink cut-outs, rounded corners and edge banding.
  • To order, you need the length of each wall, the hob and sink models, and a list of the visible ends.

Postforming or Compact?

  • Look. A 38 mm postforming worktop looks solid and has a rounded front edge. A 12 mm Compact worktop looks slim and modern.
  • Budget. Compact worktops cost several times more per linear metre than postforming worktops. Current prices are shown on each product page.
  • Islands and breakfast bars. For a deeper work surface, choose the wider boards: 900–920 mm for postforming, 920 or 1,300 mm for Compact.

Worktop sizes and how to measure

Catalogue boards are 4,100 mm long. For a longer wall or an L-shaped kitchen, the worktop is made from two or more joined pieces. For a standard run of base units, a 600 or 635 mm width is the usual choice.

  1. Measure each wall along the back of the units and again along the front edge. Walls are not always straight.
  2. Note any obstacles: pipes, windows, columns, sockets.
  3. Measure the depth of the base units.
  4. Mark where the hob and sink will go, measured from the worktop edge.
  5. Mark the ends that will stay visible.

An on-site measuring service is available within the Chișinău municipality. Terms and price are on the CNC design and machining page.

Cutting, cut-outs and edge banding

  • Cutting to size and at an angle. The cutting service covers 28–38 mm worktops and angled cuts for particleboard, MDF and Compact. Prices are per linear metre.
  • CNC cut-outs. Cut-outs for hobs and sinks, for Compact worktops, and for sockets and pass-throughs of 36–320 mm. Cut-out design for appliances is also available.
  • Rounded corners and drilling. Radius milling, including for Compact, and holes from 2.5 to 35 mm in diameter.
  • Edge banding. The edge banding service uses 0.5, 1 and 2 mm ABS edging on straight or curved edges, with standard or PUR adhesive. Edging can be matched to the décor from the EGGER and Schilsner range.

Important: hob and sink cut-outs are made to the installation (cut-out) dimensions in the appliance's technical sheet, not to its outer size. Have the exact model or the technical sheet ready before you order.
