Plywood, chipboard or MDF?

  • Plywood: light, strong in bending and good at holding screws — best for frames and hidden load-bearing parts.
  • Melamine-faced chipboard: a ready decorative surface — best for visible carcasses and shelves.
  • MDF: uniform structure that mills and paints cleanly — best for painted or profiled fronts.
